WCGS has a strong tradition of Student Voice that, over the years, has contributed significantly to the School. Ideas generated by the School Council have contributed to the design of the School's Cafe whilst members of the School Council are regularly invited to participate in the recruitment of staff.  Other major areas of impact involve regular review of school policies and documents such as the Student Contact book. Other recent innovations include introducing water fountains throughout the School and the introduction of table tennis tables in the Year 7 and 8 playgrounds.

How does the School Council work?

There are three separate key stage councils:

• KS3 Council made up of representatives from Year 7 and 8
• KS4 Council, made up of representatives from Year 9, 10 and 11
• KS5 Council, made up of representatives from Year 12 and 13

Form groups elect/select one member from each form to represent them on their Key Stage Council. Representatives are required to listen to the views of their form classes, bring them to fortnightly Key Stage Council meetings and feedback to form classes. Key Stage Council reps may also be asked to undergo feasibility studies in line with student-led initiatives. Recent studies include a feasibility report on student lockers and surveys of damaged furniture in classes. Minutes from Key Stage Council meetings are kept by attached members of the Student Leadership Team and issues arising are forwarded to subject or year leaders, key stage leaders or the school’s Senior Leadership Team as appropriate.

Key Stage Councils then elect or nominate two people from each year group to represent that year group at the main School Council. Key Stage Councils meet once a fortnight. The full School Council meets once a half term or when needed. The full School Council meets with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss and advise on major matters of school policy.
