You can find more information about the Award at dofe.org.

In the spirit of the Award, the students should always make any queries before parental involvement.

Any student in Years 9 and above can enrol on the programme at the relevant level.

  • Year 9 - Bronze
  • Year 10 - Bronze or Silver
  • Aged 16+ - Bronze or Silver or Gold

The Award

The Award consists of four sections (five at GOLD):

  • Volunteering
  • Skills
  • Physical
  • Expedition
  • Residential (Gold only)

The participants must demonstrate commitment to the sections by demonstrating their involvement on a weekly basis for a sustained period of time. For those entering the award at Bronze, they must show six sustained weeks of commitment to be enrolled on DofE.

The expedition section can be completed with any DofE Approved Activity Provider. Activ provides expedition training at WCGS if you opt to sign up with them for the expedition. All questions regarding the expeditions with Activ should be directed to Activ Adventures who are solely responsible for the expeditions. WCGS staff are not always in attendance at the expeditions, which can be held close to home at Bronze level (Surrey Hills) or further away for Gold (if the cohort opts to use Activ for the Gold expeditions). Please note that the school will not accept any financial liability for payments made to Activ.

The enrolment cost includes the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Registration fee and administration costs that the school must cover in order to provide the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The expedition fees shown are the costs if the expedition is completed with Activ. The expedition costs include all the training, supervision, campsite fees and assessment as well as the provision of tents and stoves.  Travel costs are not included. Suitable rucksacks can be loaned from WCGS, pending availability with priority given to Bronze participants. The Gold expeditions may be completed in remote locations or closer to home following recent rule changes.

COSTS 2023-24

Students in receipt of Free School Meals or Pupil Premium funding may receive some support towards enrolment/expedition costs. Please email dofe@wcgs.foliotrust.uk if this applies to you.
